‘Magic’ Mushroom Use By Young Adults Has Nearly Doubled In Three Years

Consumption of “magic” mushrooms and other hallucinogens by young adults nearly doubled over the past three years, a new study has found, illustrating the accelerating pace of America’s “psychedelic revolution” and growing societal acceptance of mind-altering drugs. Researchers found that 6.6 percent of adults from ages 19 to 30 used hallucinogens other than LSD, a category dominated by psilocybin, in 2021, up from 3.4 percent in 2018. LSD use by young adults rose from 3.7 percent to 4.2 percent in the same period, according to an article published this month in the journal Addiction.

WisPolitics: Wisconsin GOP Activists Prefer Trump For President, Tiffany For U.S. Senate

Republican Party of Wisconsin conventioneers voting in a WisPolitics straw poll preferred Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 and U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany to be the party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate. Just under 53 percent (169 votes) of those participating in the straw poll said they backed Trump in the presidential race. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was second with 34 percent (109 votes). No one else was close to the two.

Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigation In Vernon County, Wis.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved critical incident in Genoa, Wis. that occurred on the evening of June 16, 2023. At approximately 5:55 p.m., Vernon County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence near Wisconsin Highway 35 and Gianoli Road in Genoa, Wisconsin for a welfare check. Upon arrival, the subject was departing the home and the deputies made a traffic stop a short distance from the residence. During the traffic stop, the subject turned on their vehicle and began to drive away at a high rate of speed with one deputy hanging on to the side of the vehicle. A Vernon County Sheriff’s deputy discharged their firearm, striking the subject, who was pronounced deceased on scene.

Judge Orders Enbridge To Shut Down Part Of Wisconsin Oil Pipeline In 3 Years

A federal judge is ordering a Canadian energy firm to pay $5.1 million for trespassing on a northern Wisconsin tribe's reservation and remove its oil and gas pipeline from lands it's illegally operating on within three years. The decision comes nearly four years after the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa filed a federal lawsuit against Enbridge Inc. to shut down and remove its Line 5 pipeline from the reservation. The company's easements on a dozen parcels of land expired in 2013, and the tribe refused to renew them. Last fall, U.S. District Judge William Conley ruled Enbridge has been trespassing on the Bad River reservation, entitling the tribe to a financial remedy.

Wisconsin Republicans Vote To End Funding For Child Care Program

Republicans who control the Wisconsin Legislature voted early Friday to end funding for a pandemic-era child care subsidy program over the objections of Democrats and child care providers who argued that the move would be devastating for needy families and the state’s economy. The GOP-controlled Joint Finance Committee, which writes the state budget, voted to kill funding around 2:30 a.m. after the start of its meeting was delayed more than 10 hours.
