Israel Plants Flag On Ancient Lebanese Castle For First Time In 26 Years
Israeli troops have captured a strategic mountain topped with a Crusader-built castle in southern Lebanon in the deepest incursion into the country in more than a quarter-century, the military said Sunday, while U.S. Secretary of State spoke to Lebanese and Israeli leaders in an effort keep negotiations going.
The taking of Beaufort castle, near the city of Nabatiyeh, followed days of airstrikes and intense fighting in nearby villages between Israeli troops and Hezbollah militants.

The US carried out what it said was “self-defense” strikes in Iran over the weekend – as President Donald Trump sent back changes to a proposed deal to extend the existing ceasefire in the region and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The weekend strikes in Iran targeted Iranian radar and command and control sites and were a response to “aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a US MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters,” US Central Command said Sunday night.

ATV/UTV Law Changes Take Effect June 1
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) urges ATV and UTV riders to review recent law changes that take effect June 1.
Numerous law changes and updates pertaining to ATV and UTV operation are detailed in the 2026 ATV/UTV regulations.
Updates include:
- Operators and passengers are all required to wear a seatbelt in a UTV.
- Intentionally causing damage with an ATV or UTV can cost you more than a fine – up to three times the cost to repair the damage.
- ATV or UTV operators may not tow objects bearing any person on a trail or route. Towing persons on ice is limited to 10 mph.
- UTVs now have window tint restrictions.
Man Sentenced To 20 Years For Leading A Large Drug Trafficking Organization And Armed Drug Trafficking
Jamar M. Purnell, 49, Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced last week by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 20 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and 400 grams or more of fentanyl and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The prison sentence will be followed by 5 years of supervised release. Purnell pleaded guilty to these charges on March 4, 2026.
In early 2024, law enforcement began investigating members of a drug trafficking organization operating in Dane County led by Purnell.

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will bid farewell this summer to a historic light tower that’s been compromised by storm damage and shoreline erosion on Lake Superior.
The National Park Service announced May 20 that it’s dismantling and removing the historic Chequamegon Point Light Tower on Long Island, one of 21 islands within the national lakeshore.
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Superintendent BriAnna Weldon said in a statement that the 42-foot tower can no longer be preserved and threatens to collapse into Lake Superior.
