Amazon Web Services Outage Downs Dozens Of Major Websites, Apps
An Amazon Web Services outage downed dozens of major websites and apps worldwide early Monday morning.
Amazon Web Services provides infrastructure for many big-name companies, as well as state and local governments.
Applications like Snapchat, Roblox, Duolingo and Fortnite were all affected, according to outage detecting site Downdetector.
The outage also affected Amazon Alexa, Ring cameras, airport kiosks and more.

Israel's government said Sunday it struck "dozens of Hamas terror targets" across Gaza in response to earlier attacks against its troops by Hamas militants in southern Gaza, a sudden escalation of violence that threatened to derail a fragile ceasefire that's been in effect for less than a week.
Hamas responded that it was not involved in any attacks and was committed to the ceasefire.
Israel's military said Sunday that "terrorists" had attacked Israeli troops operating in the Rafah area with gunfire and an anti-tank missile.

As the alarms sounded at the Louvre Museum on Sunday morning, four suspects took off on two motorbikes, winding their way through central Paris, allegedly carrying with them a haul of "priceless" jewelry once worn by queens and made of sapphire, diamonds and emeralds.

Two comets, C/2025 A4 (Lemmon) and C/2025 R2 (SWAN), are about to reach their closest approach to Earth and you can watch the action unfold live online.
Astronomer Gianluca Masi and his Virtual Telescope Project will host a special livestream on Oct. 20 beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT (1730 GMT) to watch as both comets make a close pass to Earth, making them well placed for observations.
"So far, living in the Northern hemisphere, I could admire C/2025 A6 Lemmon only, but C/2025 R2 SWAN is quickly joining the show and we are ready to amaze every astronomy lover with our live feed!" Masi told Space.com in an email.

One Victim Recovered From Amnicon Lake Structure Fire
On Wednesday morning, 10-15-2025 at 7:54am, emergency responders and crews from multiple volunteer fire departments were dispatched 7925S Finn Point Rd on Amnicon Lake for a fully involved structure fire. When the fire was put out, the body of an individual was located in the basement apartment of the cabin. It is believed to be that of the lone occupant, a 71 year old male.
Responding to this incident was the Douglas County Sheriff's and Medical Examiner's Offices, Mayo Ambulance, Volunteers from the Summit, Town of Superior, Oakland, and Dairyland Fire Departments. The identity of the victim is withheld at this time pending positive identification by Midwest Medical in Anoka County, MN.

When deputies arrived, they found that the suspect had left the area. Nobody was hurt during the robbery.

The Great Lakes are seeing near-record warm water temperatures right now, which means there’s a higher chance for lake effect snow when the weather turns cold.
As of Thursday, all five of the lakes were around 4 to 5.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than their long-term average for the last three decades. That’s according to data from the Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA.
WPR reached out to NOAA staff for an interview on the near-record warm waters, but responses have been delayed due to the government shutdown.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that 177 endangered native spectaclecase mussels were released into the Chippewa River as part of an effort to reestablish a reproducing population.
The spectaclecase mussel (Cumberlandia monodonta) was once considered extirpated from the Chippewa River due to habitat degradation and decades without confirmed records. This native mussel is on both the federal and state endangered species list in Wisconsin. Staff from the Wisconsin DNR, Minnesota DNR and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service worked together as part of a broader, federal strategy focused on recovery, research and habitat restoration, aiming to restore self-sustaining spectaclecase populations throughout their historical range.
