At the same time, the court’s emergency docket continues to bloat with consequential requests that are expected to yield weighty rulings throughout the term.

Here are five key issues to watch as the term gets underway.

Nuclear In My Backyard? More Of America, And The Market, Seems OK With It

Amazon, Google, and others big tech companies are helping to fuel a nuclear power comeback to feed their data centers.

The first small modular reactions (SMRs) in the United States could be operable by the end of the decade, but opinions vary on whether it is realistic to expect widespread deployment over the next decade.

Experts say the nuclear technology has advanced to where risks of failure are low, and Pew polling shows increasing support for nuclear over the last decade, especially among Republicans. The future of energy is subatomic,” Bill Gates wrote in “Power Magazine” this week.

Ex-NFL Quarterback Mark Sanchez Stabbed Multiple Times In Altercation Leading To Charges Against Him

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was pepper-sprayed and stabbed multiple times during a late-night altercation with a 69-year-old truck driver in a downtown Indianapolis alley, which resulted in criminal charges against the Fox Sports analyst, according to court records filed Sunday.

Based on hotel video footage of the altercation early Saturday and the driver’s statement to police, a police affidavit alleges that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted the driver of a box truck that backed into a hotel’s loading docks, leading to a confrontation outside the vehicle that prompted the driver to defensively pull out a knife.

Sean "Diddy" Combs Sentenced To Over 4 Years For Prostitution-Related Charges

A judge on Friday ordered Sean "Diddy" Combs to serve 50 months in prison — just over four years — for two prostitution-related charges. Combs was also given five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine.

Combs was sentenced in federal court in New York City, three months after he was convicted on the two prostitution-related charges. He was acquitted on the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

Prosecutors had requested a sentence of 11 years and three months in prison. Combs' lawyers argued that he should receive no more than 14 months, with credit for time already served since his arrest in September 2024.

Poll: Most Wisconsin Voters Undecided In Governor's Race

New polling from Platform Communications finds no candidate has the support of a majority of their party in the race for governor. For the first time since 2010, the incumbent governor is not running, which means there's a wide-open primary in both parties.

The poll surveyed 500 people who are likely to vote in the general election in November 2026. They were asked about which candidate they support in the primary contests, how they feel about leaders in the Democratic and Republican parties and who they would vote for in a generic gubernatorial race.

Wisconsin Congressmen Spar On X Over Government Shutdown

Wisconsin’s members of Congress took their disagreements over the government online Friday.

Madison Democrat Mark Pocan started the back and forth late Thursday night with a post on X denying claims that Democrats on Capitol Hill are trying to give healthcare coverage to illegal immigrants.

“Any Republican in Congress who spins BS about a trillion dollars for healthcare for “illegals”, SHOW THE MATH,” Pocan wrote. “I dare you. Double dare. You can’t because it’s not true.”

Western Wisconsin Republican Derrick Van Orden, who frequently spars with Pocan on X, strenuously disagreed.

“We are simply not going to make American citizens pay for illegal aliens free healthcare,” Van Orden wrote.

Southeast Wisconsin Congressman Scott Fitzgerald expounded.
