Details Of Trump Shooting Security Breakdown Start To Emerge

Amid swirling questions over how the Secret Service allowed a gunman with an AR-style rifle to get close enough to shoot and injure former President Trump at a Saturday rally, some answers are starting to emerge.

The security gap appears to stem from how and what the agency communicated with local law enforcement before and during the event, and the apparent decision not to place security personnel on the building the gunman climbed up before shooting.

The gunman — Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pa. — was killed by Secret Service agents, but not before he fired multiple shots towards the stage from a rooftop just outside the rally venue, about 152 yards from the GOP presidential nominee. The shooter grazed Trump’s ear with a bullet, killed one attendee and injured two others.

Biden Considering Proposals To Reform Supreme Court

President Biden is considering a series of proposals to reform the Supreme Court, including measures to establish term limits for justices and an enforceable ethics code.

Any plans would require approval from Congress.

The president revealed in a call with the Congressional Progressive Caucus on Saturday that he's been working with experts on proposals to reform the nation's highest court to be announced soon, a source familiar with the call confirmed to CBS News. Mr. Biden did not tell the group what his plans are, but his willingness to engage on the issue marks a shift for the president, who led the Judiciary Committee while serving in the Senate.

A former CIA employee and senior official at the National Security Council has been charged with serving as a secret agent for South Korea's intelligence service, the U.S. Justice Department said.

Sue Mi Terry accepted luxury goods, including fancy handbags, and expensive dinners at sushi restaurants in exchange for advocating South Korean government positions during media appearances, sharing nonpublic information with intelligence officers and facilitating access for South Korean officials to U.S. government officials, according to an indictment filed in federal court in Manhattan.

Country singer Ingrid Andress has apologised and admitted being drunk while performing a much-derided rendition of the US national anthem, at a baseball stadium.

Andress's erratic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner was widely shared after Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby, in Texas, on Monday.

"I was drunk last night," wrote Andress, who has previously received four Grammy Award nominations.

Hovde In RNC Speech Blames Political Left, Media For Division As He Calls On Americans To Come Together

U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde in a speech at the RNC this evening said the country has become “too divided,” while arguing those on the left of the political spectrum and in the media have caused the division.

“Instead of putting on just the blue jersey or the red jersey, we need to put on the red, white and blue jersey and come together as Americans. We need to heal this country from the division that the left has brought. And the media—you have to stop dividing us,” the Madison businessman said in a speech at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

Ohio Police Officers Fatally Shoot A Man Blocks Away From The RNC, Angering Milwaukee Residents

Ohio police officers in Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention shot and killed a man who was wielding two knives near the convention, Milwaukee’s police chief said July 16.

Five members of the Columbus, Ohio, police department fired on the man, who had a knife in each hand, refused police commands and charged at an unarmed man before police fired, Milwaukee Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a news conference. Two knives were recovered from the scene, the chief said.

Brown County Officials Warn Of Jury Scams

Brown County authorities are warning the public about continued scams involving jurors.

The Brown County Clerk of Courts said scammers are posing as law enforcement officers and calling jurors. Some jurors might even be texted fake bench warrant documents.

These imposters claim that jurors failed to appear for jury duty and now must either turn themselves into the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for arrest or can send payment through a gift card. These imposters are very convincing and create a false sense of urgency to follow their instructions.
