The Food and Drug Administration will no longer allow the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food products and sodas due to concerns it poses a threat to people's health, the FDA announced Tuesday.

The ban follows similar action in California against the food additive that's modified with bromine, which has been used in small quantities as a stabilizer in some citrus-flavored drinks and which is also found in fire retardants.

House Explodes In Wisconsin With One Man Inside

A house in Lafayette, Wisconsin exploded Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

One man who was in the home at the time was taken to the hospital by helicopter, according to Elkhorn Fire Chief Trent Eichmann.

It took 30 to 40 minutes for firefighters to get to the man, who was rescued from the basement of the house.

Friends: Grandfather Died Trying To Save Family In Wisconsin Cabin Fire

The Juneau County Sheriff reports that six people, including three children, died early Sunday morning in a fire in Necedah, Wisconsin.

“The whole sky was orange,” neighbor Ken Zielinski told WKOW News. “The flames at that point, which happened really quick, were almost above the jack pines, so that’s 20-25 feet in the air.”
