Motorcycle Versus Deer Collision In Polk County Turns Fatal

POLK COUNTY -- A motorcycle vs deer crash in Polk County on Tuesday resulted in the death of the driver, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

(Press Release) -- On August 6th, 2019 at 11:30 am, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a reported crash involving a Motorcycle striking a deer on State Highway 87 approximately 600 feet south of 210th Ave, in the town of Eureka.

Upon Deputies arrival, they learned that Anthony Lewsader, 50 yoa, from North St. Paul Minnesota, was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle north bound on Highway 87.  At that time he was riding with a friend who indicated that he observed the deer walking out of the east ditch, however, did not believe that Anthony had observed the deer until it was in the roadway.  

Upon noticing the deer in the roadway, Anthony Lewsader applied the brakes to the point of leaving skid marks.  Anthony Lewsader was unable to avoid the deer and they struck.  Anthony was thrown from the motorcycle and both continued to the north, tumbling on the pavement.  Anthony Lewsader came to rest in the roadway and had suffered injuries to his head and was not wearing a helmet.  

Based on the extent of the injuries, Anthony Lewsader was airlifted from the scene by the Life Link air ambulance and transported to Regions Hospital in St Paul Minnesota.  Anthony succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash and passed away.  

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office with this crash was the Cushing Fire Department and First Responders, Lakes Area EMS, and the Life Link Air Ambulance.
