UPDATE: The Polk County Sheriff's Office on Friday released the name of the driver who passed away in the SUV collision on Monday that also left two injured.

According to Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak, the driver who died in this crash was 72-year-old Bradley Niemann from Baldwin, Wisconsin.

POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - On Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11:36 AM, the Polk County Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 63, north of 50th Avenue. Law enforcement and first responders were dispatched to the scene.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a southbound SUV, occupied only by the driver, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound passenger car carrying two occupants. The driver of the passenger car was pronounced deceased at the scene. The front passenger was critically injured and transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital. The SUV driver was also air ambulanced from the scene with critical injuries.

The identities of the involved parties have not yet been released, and the crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff’s Office representatives expressed gratitude for the swift response and assistance from multiple agencies, including the Clear Lake Fire Department, Clear Lake Ambulance, Clayton Fire Department, Northwestern Municipal Ambulance, Life Link Air Ambulance, Amery Police Department, and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
