SAWYER COUNTY -- Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek says in a press release that all three of the victims involved in the single-vehicle crash yesterday are teenagers.
(Press Release) -- On 08/06/18 at 3:40 pm, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a single vehicle traffic crash with injuries on STH 77 near Geist Road, in the Town of Hayward in Sawyer County. Sawyer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene, assisted by Sawyer County Paramedic/EMTs, the Town of Hayward Fire Department and the City of Hayward Fire Department.
When Deputies and emergency personnel arrived, the vehicle involved, a Ford pickup, was in a wooded area down off the roadway. The pickup had been travelling eastbound on STH 77 near Geist Road, when the driver apparently lost control of the pickup. The pickup left the roadway, went down into the wooded area and struck a tree.
The 17-year-old male driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old male passenger in the cab of the pickup and a 16-year-old male passenger in the bed of the pickup, all sustained injuries. The 17-year-old driver was flown from the scene by helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN; the 16-year-old passenger from the pickup bed was flown from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN; a family member transported the 16-year-old passenger from the pickup cab to Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
The names and current medical conditions of the male juvenile victims are not being released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol.
