Northstar Community Charter Students Compete In Conservation Speaking Contest

WASHBURN COUNTY — On January 13, students from Northstar Community Charter participated in a local Conservation Speaking Contest, hosted by the County Land and Water Conservation Department.

Speeches promoted the conservation of natural resources and the protection and enhancement of environmental quality.

Judges ranked students ranging from 5-8th grade. Topics included:

  • Emerald Ash Borer
  • Clean Boats Clean Waters
  • CWD
  • Rain Gardens
  • Shoreline Buffers
  • Whitetail Deer Population Management
  • Eurasian Water Milfoil
  • Zebra Mussels
  • Canada Goose Population Management
  • Pollinators
  • Wolf Population
  • Wake Boats

First-place winners, Samuel Draper (Shoreline Buffers) and Ava Kildow (wake boats), moved on to the North West WI Area contest for further competition.
