Now It's Cheaper to Feed Washburn County

Now It's Cheaper to Feed Washburn County

You’ve only got a few weeks left to help the Indianhead Community Action Agency (ICAA) provide needed food for your neighbors and people you see every day.

These are the folks who fall through the cracks financially and who depend on others to help them feed their families and themselves until things improve for them.

These are the folks who are grateful for the generosity of Washburn County who provides services like Ruby’s Pantry and churches that have giveaways of furniture, household items, clothes (especially those warm winter jackets, hats and mittens), and even housing.

These are the folks who visit the ICAA for groceries that include foodstuffs ranging from fresh from the garden produce to frozen meats with lots of other important grocery items in between.

Both the food pantries appreciate the donations of cans of food, especially during the up-coming holidays, but to be honest, they can stretch their food dollar farther than you can. A dollar might buy two cans of vegetables if you spent it, but if that dollar is donated to ICAA, they can go through the Feed My People Food Bank and get 6 cans of the same vegetables for the same dollar.

If that makes sense to you, and you would like to donate money, either by cash, check or credit card, and get a tax deductible receipt for your efforts, you’ve only got until October 21 to be generous.

It’s being called the Food For More Challenge because The Feed My People Food Bank will match every dollar donated with a pound of food - up to 5000 pounds of food.

Now the ICAA'S can stretch the donation dollars even further because, for the same former cost, they will now be able to obtain ten times the amount of food. Ten times. Just think of what that would mean to families who need food for the up-coming holidays.

The number of families involved in the food program increases yearly and this is a golden opportunity to make sure that absolutely no one, young or old, will go hungry in Washburn County this fall and winter.

If you’re donating by check, please write “match” on the memo line and your donations can be mailed to ICAA, 608 Service Road, Spooner, WI, 54801; or you can stop by the store Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturday from 9am until 2pm and make your donation using your charge card, or simply drop cash into the donation box on the counter, asking for a tax deductible receipt if you need one.

October at Connections sees three separate deals during the month: a five dollar clothing bag sale from October 4th through the 8th; fifty percent off all games, books and puzzles October 18th through the 22nd; and men’s and women’s pants are discounted 50 percent October 25th to the 29th.

Shop, donate items, and loosen up that money belt and beat the Christmas rush: give now.

If you need more information, you can find them on Face Book at icaawashburncountyconnectionsstore&more or give them a call at 715-635-3975.
