Single-Vehicle Crash, Vehicle Fire In Sawyer County Results In Fatality

SAWYER COUNTY -- One person has died after authorities in Sawyer County responded to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames following a single-vehicle crash.

According to the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at approximately 9:35p, Officers responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash on Guano Lake Road approximately 1/2 mile west of County Hwy NN.

Initial indications were that a white 2012 Chevy Silverado truck was traveling westbound on Guano Lake Road when the vehicle lost control crossing the roadway, striking trees, and rolling. As a result of the crash, the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was extinguished, a deceased unidentified male was located in the vehicle.

LCO Tribal Police say that the name of the individual is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family members.

The Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department was assisted by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Hayward Police Department, Lac Courte Oreilles Fire Department, Town of Hayward Fire Department, City of Hayward Fire Department, Bass Lake Fire Department, and the Sawyer County Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department and the Sawyer County Coroner’s Office.
