BURNETT COUNTY -- One person is in custody after authorities respond to a call of an active shooter on County Road C in Burnett County, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday, April 15, 2022, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooter call on County Rd. C in the Town of Oakland.

Between 10:48 a.m. and 10:51 a.m., Burnett County dispatch received two separate calls from victims stating there was a man shooting at their vehicles while they were traveling on County Rd. C.

Officer’s responded and eventually apprehended Richard Boatman Jr. Boatman Jr. is being held in the Burnett County Jail pending initial charges of two counts of attempted homicide, discharging a firearm while under the influence and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Both victims’ vehicles had multiple bullet holes and numerous shell casings were located in the area.

We are thankful that neither victim was physically injured.

We do not believe that there is any further danger to the public.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
