Phil Grassmann Announces Candidacy for Rusk County Sheriff

RUSK COUNTY — Rusk County Sheriff Phil Grassmann has announced his candidacy for the 2026 election in the following statement:

I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Rusk County Sheriff, a position I have held since April 2024. With over 23 years of law enforcement experience, 11 of which in an administrative role for the Sheriff’s Office, coupled with my strong leadership skills, dedication to community service, and deep commitment to upholding the law, I believe I will continue to make a positive impact as the Sheriff.

Throughout my career, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and responsibilities that come with law enforcement. From my initial role as a Patrol Deputy, then as the Chief Deputy, to my current role as the Sheriff, I have been privileged to work alongside dedicated professionals, providing high quality service to our community.

My experience managing investigations, leading patrol and jail/dispatch operations, managing a multimillion dollar budget, running and operating a jail, implementing and creating policies and supervising personnel has equipped me with the skills to lead the department effectively while ensuring a fair and transparent approach to all community members.

I am particularly committed to building trust between law enforcement and the community, fostering an environment where safety and respect go hand-in-hand. I believe in the importance of community outreach, proactive policing, and collaborating with local agencies to ensure that we not only respond to crime but also work to prevent it and educate our community about it.

As Sheriff, I bring a balanced approach to leadership; one that values transparency, accountability, and integrity, while also supporting the men and women of the department who serve tirelessly to protect and assist the people of Rusk County. I am excited to continue contributing to the growth and success of our department while ensuring that our community remains safe and secure.
