SHELL LAKE, WI — A Shell Lake resident was uninjured after a plane he was piloting crashed and flipped near the airport in Shell Lake on Thursday, according to a press release from the Shell Lake Police Department.
(Press Release) — On October 17, 2019, at approximately 12:37 PM, I was dispatched to an aircraft crash in the City of Shell. It was reported that there were no injuries. I arrived on the scene and met with the pilot James Lewis, Shell Lake resident, who is also the owner of the aircraft. I verified that he was uninjured, and had additional resources from Shell Lake Fire, Wisconsin DNR en route. The airport manager and the FAA were notified.
The operation was mainly a plane recovery operation. I want to thank the multi-agency cooperation, and Jock’s towing for their assistance for removing the plane from the shoreline.
The FAA will tentatively be conducting a follow-up investigation on 21 October, 2019.
