Pilot Injured in Plane Crash Near Amery After Emergency Landing Attempt

POLK COUNTY — A pilot was injured Saturday after attempting an emergency landing in a field south of Amery when engine problems forced a single-engine aircraft down, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:13 AM, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Call Center was notified of a Plane Crash near 30th Ave and Hwy 46.

A single engine fixed wing aircraft had last fueled up at an airport in Menomonie WI, was travelling to Brainard MN when engine problems occurred.

The pilot who was the only occupant in the plane tried to make it to the Amery Airport but could not. The pilot attempted an emergency landing in a field approximately 1.5 miles south of the Amery Airport.

The plane landed in the field and abruptly came to a stop digging in the nose of the plane and injured the pilot. The pilot was transported by air ambulance to regions hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Assisting with this crash were Amery Police, Northwestern Municipal Ambulance, Life Link III air ambulance, and Amery Fire and First Responders.
