Polk County Sheriff’s Office Says K-9 ‘Jaeger’ Put Down Due To ‘Unforeseen Medical Condition’

POLK COUNTY — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says that K-9 ‘Jaeger’ had to be put down due to an unforeseen medical condition, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Press Release

On Wednesday, August 19 , 2020, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office suffered a great loss. Our K-9 Jaeger, who had been taken to a Veterinarian Hospital in St. Paul, had to be put down due to an unforeseen medical condition.

Jaeger came to the Sheriff’s Office around the beginning of February 2015. He was trained at the St. Paul Police Departments K-9 academy. He was certified as a Police Dog 1 and certified in Narcotics Detection.

During his 5 years of services to the citizens of Polk County, K-9 Jaeger conducted many successful search and rescues. Jaeger was a huge part in the Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s success in our mission to reduce Methamphetamine, by identifying and seizing drugs, which led to many drug related convictions.

Losing K-9 Jaeger is a tremendous loss to not only the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, but, to Polk County as a whole. We would like to thank the Valley View Veterinarian Clinic for the great care they have provided our K-9’s over the years.
