Prison Ordered for Polk Co. Man Convicted of Child Abuse

Virgil Hansen, of Milltown, WI, was sentenced to prison in Polk County Circuit Court on February 19, 2018.

Early in November 2017, Hansen plead no contest to the lesser of the charges filed against him, Class F Felony Causing Mental Harm to a Child, and 2 counts of Class I Felony Child Abuse-Recklessly Cause Harm.

At his sentencing hearing, the Court sentenced Hansen to 8 years on the conviction of Causing Mental Harm to a Child. Hansen was ordered to serve 4 years of initial confinement in prison followed by 4 years of extended supervision.

For the counts of Child Abuse-Recklessly Cause Harm, the Court sentenced Hansen to 3 years and 6 months. Hansen was ordered to serve 1 year and 6 months of initial confinement in prison on those convictions, followed by 2 years of extended supervision.

Hansen’s prison terms are to be served concurrently, or at the same time.

Online circuit court records indicate that Hansen has also been ordered to undergo a sexual deviancy evaluation and register as a Sex Offender for the remainder of his life. Hansen is to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Hansen was remanded into custody, to be transferred to Dodge County Correctional.

In addition to the charges that Hansen plead no contest to, charges of Class B Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child, Class C Felony Trafficking of a Child, Class C Felony Child Sexual Exploitation - Video, Records, etc., Class D Felony Child Enticement - Sexual Contact were also filed against Hansen. Those charges were dismissed at Hansen’s plea hearing in November 2017.

According to WEAU, the charges against Hansen stemmed from accusations that Hansen had repeatedly sexually and physically abused a boy from 2013 through 2015. A criminal complaint filed against Hansen stated that he repeatedly tied up, blindfolded, and assaulted the boy who told investigators that he had known Hansen since he was 12.
