Propane Truck Catches Fire After Two-Vehicle Crash In Dewey Township

BURNETT COUNTY — A pickup truck struck a propane truck at a rural intersection in Dewey Township Tuesday afternoon, causing the propane truck to catch fire and roll onto its side, according to Burnett County’s Sheriff’s Office.

On January 28th, 2026, approximately 12:53 p.m., Burnett County Dispatch received a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road H and State Road 70 in Dewey Township.

Preliminary investigation indicates a pickup truck traveling northbound on County Road H failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 70 and struck a propane truck traveling eastbound. Upon impact, the propane truck caught fire and rolled onto its side.

The driver of the propane truck became trapped inside the vehicle. Burnett County Detective Patrick Carlson extricated the driver prior to the arrival of additional emergency personnel. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection of State Rd 70 & County Rd H was shut down, and detour routes were in place until 2:30 a.m. this morning when the highway re-opened. Emergency personnel remained on scene until the remaining propane safely burned off from the truck.

The propane truck is owned by Lakes Gas. This crash remains under investigation.
