Pursuit Of Suspect Vehicle In Polk Ends With Crash Into Outbuilding

POLK COUNTY -- Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a residence on Lone Pine Lane in the Town of Garfield on June 18, 2021, shortly after 11p, and encountered a suspect with a knife, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect fled from the residence and Deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit which traveled east on Lone Pine Lane, north on 130th Street, and then east on 120th Avenue. The suspect vehicle then traveled north on 120th Street and east on United States Highway 8.

While traveling eastbound on US Highway 8 near County Road H, the suspect vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane, striking a Wisconsin State Patrol vehicle occupied by a State Trooper, who was responding to assist with the situation.

The suspect vehicle then left the roadway, struck a power pole, and ultimately crashed into an outbuilding at a nearby residence.

The driver of the vehicle was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Amery Regional Medical Center for medical care of serious injuries. The State Patrol Trooper sustained minor injuries in the crash. The current health conditions of the suspect and the Trooper are not known to DrydenWire at the time of this post.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and the subsequent crash. The suspect's name is not being released at this time. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this incident, according to the press release.

Agencies assisting with this incident were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Apple River Fire Department and First Responders, Amery Area Ambulances, and St Croix County Sheriff’s Office.
