Quinn Votes To Protect Kids

MADISON, WI -- Senator Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Cameron) today voted in favor of several measures to provide greater protection of Wisconsin children.

Quinn is the author of legislation that continues to fund the Office of School Safety (OSS) through the fall of 2025.

The Office of School Safety (OSS) is a division of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) created in 2018 to keep students safe at school. OSS has become a critical resource for students, teachers, school administrators and education communities throughout Wisconsin, with the intent to prevent violence in schools.

“The Office of School Safety provides an important and essential tool to prevent threats in our schools,” Quinn said. “This bill would allow the services provided by the Office of School Safety to remain in place through the 2024-25 school year and the next state budget when a long-term funding solution can be considered.”

Quinn also voted in favor of Assembly Bill 377, the “Protecting Women in Sports Act,” which preserves gender-specific sports categories at the high school level, based on the athletes' biological sex, while allowing for the creation of co-ed sports teams.

“The bill seeks to ensure that all athletes have equal opportunity to participate in school athletics,” Quinn said. “The movement in recent years to allow biological males to participate in female sports limits opportunities for female athletes.”

Quinn voted in favor of Assembly Bill 940, which creates grants to support sexual assault victim services, domestic abuse services, and child advocacy centers.

“Additional funding provided in the bill will continue the crucial work that child advocacy centers do to combat child abuse and neglect,” Quinn said.

All of the bills passed in the State Senate on Tuesday had previously passed in the State Assembly and will now advance to the desk of Governor Evers to be signed or vetoed.

Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Cameron) represents the 25th Senate District, which includes all of Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Burnett, Washburn, Barron, and Price Counties, and significant portions of Sawyer County.
