RCU President & CEO Resigns, Accepts New Position

Royal Credit Union Board Chairman, Doug Olson, has announced the resignation of President & CEO, Rudy Pereira, effective April 14, 2017. Pereira is leaving Royal to join Premier America Credit Union in Chatsworth, CA where he will serve as President & CEO. The move will allow Pereira and his family to return home to Southern California. Premier America is similar to Royal in size, $2.5B with over 100,000 Members. Pereira joined Royal in December of 2011 and is the third CEO to lead the credit union since it was created in 1964.

“It has been an honor to serve as Royal’s President & CEO for the past five years,” Pereira said. “I have enjoyed working with our board, executives and team members to provide exceptional service to our Members. We are a values-driven organization and take pride in our ability to offer great products and services while giving back to the communities we serve. I have enjoyed serving Royal’s Members in Wisconsin and Minnesota and I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish for them.”

Under Pereira’s leadership, Royal identified and articulated Royal’s core purpose and values, grew over 60% in assets, increased net worth, became increasingly more efficient, improved give-back to Members through better rates, industry leading team member engagement at 98th percentile in consecutive years and eliminated 69 fees, saving Members over $15.3 million over the last five years. Royal earned several community, state and national awards during Pereira’s tenure, including being named the 2015 Community Credit Union of the Year.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Rudy for his service to Royal Credit Union,” said Olson. “I certainly understand the opportunity to return home is one Rudy couldn’t let pass and we appreciate the success he has helped the credit union achieve. Royal is well-positioned for the future because of Rudy’s visionary and laser-focused leadership. We have an experienced board and executive team in place and will navigate the transition process effectively as we continue to focus on serving our Members .”

Royal’s Board of Directors is working on transition and succession plans. Details will be announced as they are finalized.

Spring is a time of new beginnings, and I have one of my own to share with you. Over the past five years, I’ve been honored to serve as your CEO. Royal has seen tremendous growth, expanded into new communities, and been able to return more to our Members in the form of truly great rates and low fees. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved, and it’s largely because of your loyalty and trust in us.

Recently, I accepted the position of President & CEO of Premier America Credit Union in Chatsworth, CA. Chatsworth is less than 30 miles from Thousand Oaks, CA, where my family and I lived for more than 20 years, and where many of our friends and family members still reside. My wife, Chris, and I began our married life there and it’s where our sons were born. I’m grateful that I’ll be able to live closer to my parents again, so I’m able to assist as they age. And, I must admit, I’m looking forward to attending Rams games (sorry, Packer and Vikes fans!) in person. I have so many memories in Southern California and had hoped to move back and eventually retire there. This opportunity came faster than I had anticipated, and there was not another set of circumstances that would have tempted me to leave Royal.

I know Royal is well-positioned for continued growth and success. We have an experienced board, a cohesive leadership team, talented and dedicated team members, very strong and stable financials, a culture firmly based in our core purpose and core values, and an exciting solid strategic direction. We’re on a very promising trajectory, and you can look forward to continued momentum.

In 1994, a group of Badger fans at the Rose Bowl parade piqued my interest in living here, and I have loved my time in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Thank you for an amazing 5 years, and thank you for being a Royal Member.

Sincerely,

Rudy Pereira

President/CEO
