Rep. Armstrong Honors Slain Officers As 75th District’s First Responders Of The Year

MADISON, WI -- The Assembly met today to recognize the contributions of first responders from across Wisconsin in a special ceremony at the beginning of its session. Each representative was able to nominate law enforcement officers, firefighters, or emergency medical service personnel.

“It was my honor to nominate Officer Emily Breidenbach of the Chetek Police Department and Officer Hunter Scheel of the Cameron Police Department as the 75th Assembly District’s First Responders of the Year,” State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) said. “Officers Breidenbach and Scheel lost their lives on April 8 of this year in a shocking act of senseless violence while carrying out their sworn duties. Chetek and Cameron lost outstanding, dedicated officers that day, and the effects of this tragedy continue to reverberate in Barron County and beyond.”

The opening prayer for today’s session was offered by Rev. Cody Kargus, pastor of Rice Lake’s Maranatha Evangelical Free Church.

“Reverend Kargus serves as chaplain for the Chetek and the Cameron police departments, and he was an invaluable resource for the Breidenbach and Scheel families, as well as for their fellow officers,” Representative Armstrong said. “Representatives can suggest local clergy to present the opening prayers in the Assembly, and I am grateful Reverend Kargus was able to join us on this special day.”

Officer Emily Breidenbach’s citation was accepted on her behalf by Lt. Jessica Larson of the Chetek Police Department, and Officer Hunter Scheel’s citation was accepted on his behalf by Camryn Gosdeck, his girlfriend.
