MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin State Legislature met in joint session on February 10 for the 2026 State of the Tribes Address, presented this year by Nicole Boyd, Chairwoman of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Council. Following the address, the State Assembly took up a number of bills as the 2025-2026 session enters its home stretch.
“Februarys in even-numbered years are always busy,” State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) explained. “Today’s floor session was the tip of the iceberg in terms of legislation the Assembly and Senate will be voting on in the next two weeks. Everyone has proposals that need to get through both the Assembly and the Senate before the Legislature completes its business.” Bills the Assembly passed in its February 10 session include:
- Assembly Bill 682, which increases fees for nonresident hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses and several other nonresident DNR licenses and permits
- Assembly Bill 974, which creates a trust fund for grants to WisconsinEye so that it can continue to cover and archive state government proceedings
- Over a dozen bills that make technical changes to the Wisconsin Statutes, such as correcting errors, reconciling inconsistencies, eliminating obsolete references, and updating terminology
The Assembly will meet again on Thursday, February 12, and it also plans to meet the week of February 16, including on February 17, when Governor Evers will present his final State of the State Address.
