Madison, WI – I’m proud to announce the introduction of a constitutional amendment to establish term limits for Wisconsin’s elected officials. This proposal, Assembly Joint Resolution LRB 3325/1, aims to ensure that public office remains a service to the people—not a lifelong career.
These offices were never meant to be held for decades. It’s time to bring new energy, ideas, and perspectives into the Capitol. Term limits will encourage more citizens to step up and serve while preserving the experience and knowledge needed for good governance.
Key Provisions of Term Limit Proposed Amendment:
- Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Treasurer: Limited to two four-year terms (8 years total).
- State Senators: Limited to two four-year terms (8 years total).
- State Assembly Members: Limited to four two-year terms (8 years total).
Public service should be about stewardship—not careerism. By enacting reasonable term limits, we can create a more dynamic, accountable, and responsive government.
Because this is a constitutional amendment, it must pass two successive legislatures before going to the voters for final approval. This is a long-term effort, but it’s one worth fighting for.
I’m asking my colleagues, as well as citizens across Wisconsin, to join me in this effort. Now is the time to restore trust in government and ensure new voices have the opportunity to serve.
Rep. Duke Tucker represents Wisconsin’s 75th Assembly District which includes Polk and most of Burnett counties in Northwestern Wisconsin.
