MADISON – On Tuesday, Rep. Gae Magnafici and Senator Dale Kooyenga received Friend of Nursing awards from the Wisconsin Nurses Association. The two received the awards following the passage of 2019 Wisconsin Act 97, which increases the criminal penalty for violence against nurses.
Rep. Magnafici and Senator Kooyenga authored the bill after surveys from Wisconsin nurses indicated that nearly two-thirds of nurses in Wisconsin had experienced workplace violence within the previous year.
“As a former nurse, I’m incredibly proud to be able to give back to my profession,” said Magnafici.
“I’m grateful for this recognition from the Wisconsin Nurses Association. I’m confident Act 97 will send a strong message to our state that violence against our nurses will not be tolerated. A safer environment for our nurses will mean a safer environment for patients and a higher quality of care.”
Gae Magnafici represents Wisconsin’s 28th Assembly District which covers portions of Polk, Burnett, and St. Croix Counties.
