Rep. Milroy: Assembly Reaches Bi-Partisan Compromise On Mental Health Beds

Legislation expands psychiatric bed capacity in Eau Claire and Chippewa County

Rep. Milroy: Assembly Reaches Bi-Partisan Compromise On Mental Health Beds

Madison— State Representative Nick Milroy (D-South Range) expressed his support for the passage of Assembly Bill 443 (AB 443) which will provide funding for 22 new psychiatric beds between two hospitals in Eau Claire and Chippewa County.

“Working together, I’m proud to support a bi-partisan compromise that will bring new mental health beds closer to our region,” Milroy said. “This compromise saves northern Wisconsin taxpayers money, protects our investment, and will bring these much needed services closer to home.”

Milroy acknowledged that while the passage of AB 443 signifies significant progress in the expansion of mental health resources, there is still work to be done to ensure constituents in northwestern Wisconsin have increased access to these same resources.

“This legislation is an important step in the right direction, but we need to continue to look at obtaining beds even closer to home,” Milroy said. “Even though the distance for mental health services is shortened, I will continue to advocate for placement of mental health beds in the northern part of the state.”

Milroy vowed to continue efforts to expand the availability of mental health resources and eliminate barriers to care in rural and underserved communities by working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
