Rep. Quinn Congratulates Local Schools on TEACH Grant Awards

MADISON -- Representative Romaine Quinn (R-Barron) congratulated nine school districts in the 75th Assembly District that received TEACH Grants to improve their technology infrastructure. Rep. Quinn was the author of a budget amendment that significantly increased the funding pool. Funding for the grants was expanded by a bill Rep. Quinn authored, Assembly Bill 123.

“Expanding internet access has been a priority for me since my first term in office,” said Rep. Quinn. “This year, one of my first bills expanded funding for the Broadband Expansion Grant program and the TEACH Grants. I’m excited to see the great things our schools will be able to do for their students with this money.”

Schools receiving grants are:

  • Barron Area School District: $30,454
  • Birchwood School District: $27,000
  • Cameron School District: $16,740
  • Chetek-Weyerhauser Area School District: $42, 720
  • Clear Lake School Distict: $15,400
  • New Auburn School District: $1,911
  • Prairie Farm School District: $20,290
  • Rice Lake Area School District: $59,525
  • School District of Shell Lake: $3,353
  • Spooner Area School District: $51,440
  • School District of Turtle Lake: $30,000

A total of $7.8 million in awards were given out this year to schools across the state. According to the Department of Administration, which oversees the program, the grant is intended for schools “to provide technology infrastructure to improve the capacity of school districts that have 16 or fewer students per square mile to utilize technology for instruction. Districts that have the greatest percentage of free or reduced-price lunch will be given funding priority.”

Rep. Quinn said that this was evidence that rural concerns were being heard and addressed. “When I helped create the Rural Wisconsin Initiative, I said that we needed to keep the focus on people across the state who need help,” said Rep. Quinn. “Whether it’s health care, education, workforce development, or technology access, we need to make sure that everyone has equal access to the tools they need to support their communities. Funding for Broadband Expansion Grants and TEACH Grants will go a long way toward improving infrastructure in our area.”
