This week, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), appointed Representative Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond) to the Speaker’s Task Force on Adoption. Rep. Stafsholt released the following statement on his appointment:
“It is a great honor to be appointed by Speaker Vos to this vital task force. Adoption is an issue that is near and dear to many families in communities like mine back home in Northwest Wisconsin, and across the state.
“Every child deserves a place to call home and a family to love. I look forward to speaking with parents that have taken on the difficult responsibility of raising a child, and working with stakeholders that have dedicated their lives to this cause.
“I hope that the Task Force can build upon the bipartisan success of last session’s Task Force on Foster Care. Like foster care, adoption should never be a partisan issue. With challenging issues like this, we must come together, put children and families first, and move Wisconsin forward.”
Legislators on the task force will examine the termination of parental rights; identify ways to shorten the timeline for adoptions; evaluate the costs of adoption and ways to reduce the amount; and increase awareness and resources pertaining to adoption. Public hearings will take place across the state, with the first hearing taking place in June.
This is the second task force that Representative Stafsholt has been appointed to this session. In March, Speaker Vos appointed Representative Stafsholt to the Suicide Prevention Task Force.
Representative Stafsholt represents the 29th Assembly District, which includes portions of eastern St. Croix County and western Dunn County.
