WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-07) urged the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to consider moving federal agency offices out of Dane County due to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) classifying the jurisdiction as “non-cooperative.” Tiffany’s suggestion that DOGE explore other parts of the state as potential relocation destinations follows the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) decision to move its operations out of “sanctuary” jurisdictions that fail to comply with federal immigration law.
Specifically, the letter asks DOGE to apply this precedent, where feasible, to agencies beyond the SBA and across the U.S.
“One such place this might be appropriate is Dane County, Wisconsin. Like the aforementioned jurisdictions, Dane County is classified as “non-cooperative” by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), meaning they do not accept Immigration Detainers,” said Tiffany.
“You may also be interested to know that among Wisconsin’s 72 counties, Dane was the only county to reject a 2024 ballot measure designed to prohibit non-citizen voting. This statewide referendum was approved by a more than 2-to-1 margin, 70.5% to 29.5%. Given this fact, I am confident you will have little difficulty identifying other jurisdictions in our state committed to complying with federal immigration law that would be happy to host these agencies, including many in my congressional district,” Tiffany concluded.
