WISCONSIN — U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany (WI-07) is expected to announce that he will be running for Governor of Wisconsin next week, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke to DrydenWire on the condition of anonymity.
Tiffany, whose name has been mentioned by multiple media outlets as a potential Republican candidate, would become the third GOP contender to officially join the 2026 gubernatorial race, following Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and businessman Bill Berrien.
If elected, Tiffany would be the first Governor from Wisconsin’s Northwoods region since Gaylord Nelson, who served from 1959 to 1963.
Governor Tony Evers (D) announced in July that he will not seek a third term in 2026, setting the stage for an open race in the fall. Evers’ decision marks the first time in 16 years that Wisconsin will have an open gubernatorial race without an incumbent on the ballot.
Tiffany began his political career as a Town Supervisor for Little Rice. He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2010 and was elected to the State Senate in 2012, where he served until 2020. That year, he won a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives and has been reelected three times. He currently serves on the House Judiciary and Natural Resources Committees.
According to the source familiar with his plans, Tiffany’s campaign announcement for Governor could come as early as next week.
