MADISON, WI -- Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Assembly Republicans announced the “Choices in Childcare” package, aimed at helping families afford childcare and increasing accessibility across our state.
“Families across Wisconsin are dealing with inflationary hardships, including childcare,” said Speaker Vos. “Parents deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money, and make choices that best suit their children’s needs.”
The average monthly cost for full-time childcare is $915 per child. The Choices in Childcare package includes legislation that would create a childcare reimbursement account, establish a revolving loan fund to help renovate current care centers and help new centers open, create a new classification of in-home childcare centers, boost capacity, and bring provider regulations in line with our neighboring states.
“It is critical Wisconsin is on par with nearby states so we may be able to attract and retain employees in the childcare industry,” Speaker Vos.
The proposals will next receive a public hearing before becoming available for consideration by the full Assembly.
