Rice Lake Man Facing Indictment By US Attorney Office For Barron Drug Bust

BARRON COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A Rice Lake, WI man is facing indictment by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for a Barron County Drug Unit drug bust in April 2024 that led to the seizure of over 200 grams of methamphetamine. According to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff's Office, David Anderson, 33, a resident of Rice Lake, was apprehended on Friday, April 19, 2024, following the issuance of a search warrant at his residence.

The Barron County Drug Unit conducted an undercover drug operation in Barron County for numerous weeks. The investigation culminated with the arrest of David Anderson, age 33 of Rice Lake, on Friday, April 19, 2024.

A search warrant was served at Anderson’s residence. Law Enforcement seized over 211 grams of meth, with a street value of over $15,000.

Charges were subsequently filed against Anderson for two counts of Class E Felony Manufacture/Deliver Amphetamine(>3-10g) and one count of Class C Felony Possess w/Intent-Amphetamine/Methamphetamine/etc.(>50g).

At a recent hearing on June 21, 2024, those charges against Anderson were dismissed. Court documents obtained by DrydenWire.com state the following reason for the dismissal:

“The state moves to dismiss the above matter, without prejudice, on the grounds that the U.S Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin has indicated that they will pursue an Indictment of the defendant in connection with this case. That process is likely to happen in July or August of 2024. The defendant was recently sentenced to prison in Barron County case 23 CF 290. He is currently in custody awaiting transport to Dodge Correctional Institution.”

Online records show that for his sentence on Barron County Case 23 CF 290 referenced above, Anderson is ordered to serve a 9-year prison sentence for a conviction of Class E Felony Possess w/ Intent - Amphetamine / Methamphetamine / etc.(>3-10g). Anderson is to serve 5 years of initial incarceration followed by 4 years of extended supervision.
