RICE LAKE, WI -- The Rice Lake Police Department issued the following press release on Friday regarding Melissa Davis who has been missing for weeks.

Missing Person Update - Melissa R. Davis

The Rice Lake Police Department has received further information regarding this investigation based upon reviewing video footage in the area of Ms. Davis' residence around the time of her initial disappearance.

On May 13, 2024 at approximately 7:19 pm, shortly after Ms. Davis left her residence on foot, she was observed entering inside a commercial dumpster in close proximity to her residence. No one was with or near her and she entered the dumpster on her own free will. She was not observed exiting the dumpster.

On May 14, 2024, the contents of this dumpster were subsequently transported to an incinerator facility for disposal. Suspected human remains similar to Ms. Davis' clothing and physical characteristics were seen within the incinerator building. All of the contents within the incinerator building were eventually processed through the incinerator.

The Department is continuing its investigation in an ongoing effort to locate Ms. Davis.

The Rice Lake Police Department extends its deepest sympathy to Ms. Davis' family and loved ones during this difficult time.
