Rice Lake Students Collect 1,659 Items for Local People in Need

(News Release) -- Linda Coe's ILA class sponsored a Food Drive at the Rice Lake Middle School December 5 - 16. Students and staff were encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items and toiletries to donate to those in need right here in Rice Lake.

Mrs. Coe made it a competition so the students could earn a delicious morning treat, compliments of their hard work! The 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students collected their items in their homeroom classes. Certain items that were in high demand earned double points, and bringing in laundry detergent gave them quadruple points since it was the item in highest demand! The efforts of those who participated were AMAZING!!

The RLMS collected 1,659 items. Of those items, 189 were laundry detergents. The students filled one vehicle of nonperishable items for Benjamin's House and two vehicles for the We Share Food Pantry "Chick's Place" in town. Renee Swanson, organizer of We Share Food Pantry, said, "This was the biggest donation anyone has ever given them." The RLMS students care and know the meaning of giving to others. The RLMS wants to wish all a happy holiday season!
