Rice Lake Woman Pleads Guilty to Felony Fleeing Charge

At a plea hearing in Barron County Circuit Court on July 12, 2017, Amber Jasper, of Rice Lake, WI, entered a guilty plea to her felony charges.

Jasper was charged with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer and Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine following a a high-speed pursuit on April 17, 2017.

According to the press release from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, Jasper led officers on a chase through the Village of Cameron and into the City of Rice Lake. After she lost control of her vehicle and ended up in a ditch, officers took her into custody. (See story below.)

Jasper was also charged with 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated along with multiple traffic violation citations. According to public record those charges were all dismissed on July 12, 2017.

With these 2 felony convictions, Jasper could face a maximum of 7 years confinement in state prison.

Public record indicates that Jasper had been placed on the conditions of a $500 cash bail bond, which the Court revoked at her hearing on July 12. Jasper's next court appearance is scheduled for October 3, 2017.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Felony Fleeing Charges Filed Against Rice Lake Woman

Amber Jasper, of Rice Lake, WI, has been charged in Barron County Circuit Court with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer after an April 17, 2017, incident in which she led officers on an early morning high-speed pursuit.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department issued a press release later that day (see below) which stated that Jasper failed to obey a traffic officer who was investigating a motor vehicle crash. Deputies attempted to stop Jasper's vehicle, however, she fled from the squad car through the Village of Cameron, WI, and on into the City of Rice Lake, WI, reportedly traveling at speeds over 95 miles per hour at times. Officers lost contact with her vehicle, however, a short time later a Rice Lake Police Officer spotted Jasper's vehicle traveling back towards the Village of Cameron and another pursuit was initiated. According to the press release, Jasper lost control of her vehicle south of Cameron, WI and came to a stop in a ditch.

Jasper is charged with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer as well as 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated along with multiple traffic violation citations.

Public record shows that on April 19, 2017, a separate criminal complaint was filed against Jasper in Barron County Circuit Court charging her with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, stemming from an offense date of November 29, 2016. Details of that case are not known at this time.

Jasper appeared on April 19 on her charges and according to public record, Judge James Babler set a $500 cash bond. As of April 26, Jasper remained in custody and is scheduled to appear again on July 12, 2017.

Early Morning High-Speed Chase in Barron County Leads to Arrest

On Monday morning, April 17, 2017, at 6:04 a.m., a Barron County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Hwy. 8 near the Hwy. 53 exit ramp for failing to obey a traffic officer who had arrived to investigate a motor vehicle crash near the intersection that had been reported just prior to that. As the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, a chase ensued eastbound on Hwy 8 then north on CTH SS through the Village of Cameron. The vehicle traveled speeds over 95 mph into the City of Rice Lake where the pursuit was terminated by the deputy.

A short time later, the vehicle was observed by the Rice Lake Police Department as it began traveling south on CTH SS toward Cameron. Another pursuit was initiated as it continued southbound on CTH SS south of Cameron where the driver lost control and vehicle came to a stop in the ditch near the intersection of CTH SS and 11th Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, Amber Shanice Jasper (age 26), was taken into custody for Attempting to Flee an Officer and several other traffic violations. She is being held at the Barron County Jail pending formal charges.
