Rusk County Crash Leaves One Dead, Another In Custody

RUSK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - In the early hours of Tuesday, January 30, 2024, tragedy struck on Highway 8 at Olesiak Rd, just west of Weyerhaeuser, as the Rusk County 911 Center received a distressing call reporting a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a semi-truck.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 3:30a, prompting an immediate response from Rusk County Deputies, Ladysmith Ambulance, Weyerhaeuser First Responders, Weyerhaeuser Fire, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

According to authorities, a westbound Jeep, driven by 21-year-old Jorge Sanchez-Tzanahua from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, collided with an eastbound semi-truck, operated by 35-year-old Steven Nasholm from Clayton, Wisconsin.

The impact proved fatal for Nasholm, who succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

Jorge Sanchez-Tzanahua (pictured), the driver of the Jeep, was taken into custody and transported to the Rusk County Jail. Law enforcement arrested Sanchez-Tzanahua for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) 2nd.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
