Safety Measures Taken As Dynamite Found In Barron County Leads To Controlled Detonation

BARRON COUNTY — On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, about 2:30 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Hungry Hollow Grounds on Hwy 25 north of Barron for some possible dynamite that was located on site during the reconstruction of a small building.

The Marathon County Bomb Squad was called in and determined that the dynamite needed to be transported to a secure area and detonated. The Marathon County Bomb Squad transported it to the Arland Range and it was detonated with the assistance of the Almena Fire Department.

During the course of the investigation on where the dynamite was located, it was determined that the shed it was stored in on the Hungry Hollow Grounds may have had some possible contamination that could possibly combust under certain conditions.

For safety reason, the decision was made to do a control burn of the shed, which was conducted by the Barron Fire Department. That area was determined to be safe after the burn and contained no other explosive material.

Thank you to the Marathon County Bomb Squad and the Almena and Barron Fire Departments for their assistance in making the area safe.
