One person, identified as 32-year-old Danica J. Smith of Sarona, is dead after crashing head-on into a truck in Dunn County Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, at 8:38 a.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle crash was reported on Highway 64 near 630th Street in the town of Wilson.
Deputies arrived and found a 2002 Dodge Stratus and a pickup truck. Smith, the driver of the Dodge, was dead at the scene.
The crash investigation indicates that Smith was driving east, crossed over the centerline and struck the pickup truck head-on. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the release.
The driver of the pickup, 61-year-old Steven Matthys of Barron, was also alone and was injured in the crash. Matthys was flown to a Twin Cities area hospital. The seriousness of his injuries are not known.
Gold Cross Ambulance, Prairie Farm Fire, Colfax Ambulance, Dallas Ambulance, Ridgeland Fire and Dunn County First Responders assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
