SAWYER COUNTY — A criminal complaint filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court alleges that a 16-year-old juvenile was fatally shot and another individual was wounded during what investigators say began as a planned armed robbery on the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Reservation. A preliminary autopsy report concluded the juvenile's death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation was handled by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office and the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department with assistance from the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

Xzavier Barreras (19), of Black River Falls, WI, now faces multiple charges, including felony murder - armed robbery. At last check, Barreras remains held in custody on a $1 million cash bond as the case proceeds through the Sawyer County court system.
