Man Dies After Tree Falls on Camper During Sunday Storm

A 55-year-old man has died after a tree fell on his camper during the weekend storm in Sawyer County, according to a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office. 

(Press Release) -- On 06/17/18 at about 2:44 am, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call reporting that a tree fell on a camper located on East Shore Drive on Lake Chetac in the Town of Edgewater, during a severe thunderstorm occurring at the time. Sawyer County Deputies responded to the scene assisted by a Wisconsin DNR Warden, Birchwood Fire Department, Birchwood Ambulance and Stone Lake Fire Department.

After Deputies and EMS personnel arrived at the scene, it was learned that a large oak tree blew over during the storm and landed on the camper; which was occupied at the time by an adult male, an adult female and two young children. The adult male sustained fatal injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult female and the children sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, WI.

The deceased male has been identified as 55-year-old James M Pluff from Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  The names of the adult female and the young children are not being released.
