SAWYER COUNTY — Authorities allege a Michigan man orchestrated a fraudulent vehicle purchase that left Sawyer County victims without their pickup truck or the $22,500 they believed they had been paid.

According to a criminal complaint, Ketwain D. Meredith (AKA Ketwain Hardin), age 48, of Ferndale, Michigan, allegedly used an altered cashier's check to obtain the truck after arranging the sale through Facebook Marketplace. Investigators later linked the case to a similar theft in Minnesota of a collector car valued at more than $80,000, and to what authorities believe is a broader pattern of fraud spanning multiple states.

Meredith has not been taken into custody and is wanted on active warrants in other jurisdictions. A court appearance in Sawyer County is scheduled for August 25, 2026, and a warrant will be issued in Sawyer County if he fails to appear.
