(Release) For the past four years the K-9 Unit of the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department has been funded by the community. We have now followed the examples of other units by starting a foundation that exists to provide financial support. The “Sawyer County K-9 LTD” has been established and was granted 501(c)(3) status. As we continue to accept donations we must accept them written to the new name. Donations provide for equipment replacement and upkeep, dog food, vet care, training, certifications, and the dogs themselves.Receipts will be issued for qualifying donations for tax write-offs. Donations can be sent to the Sawyer County Sheriff's Dept. Attn: K-9 Unit.
We can’t thank those who donated enough for allowing us to work with these dogs and allowing the community to benefit from them.
Sawyer County K9 is also happy to announce that Deputy Nelson will be attending the St. Paul K9 academy in March of 2017 with his new partner. Deputy Nelson would like to say Thank You to the community for making this opportunity happen. When Deputy Nelson was selected for the handler position, he knew the fundraising would be a hard task. This would not be possible without the support of our community. Deputy Nelson would also like to thank the Hayward Rotary Club and the Hayward Lions for there support. Last weekend these organizations donated $14,750 to the K9 program, pushing the overall total raised over $30,000! Deputy Nelson will keep the community posted when he receives his new partner.
