SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) – A routine traffic stop in Sawyer County on the evening of March 2, 2025, led to an investigation into suspected drug trafficking by 44-year-old Johnny Ray Smith Jr., of Hayward, WI after illegal drugs were located during the traffic stop.
Following the traffic stop, authorities traced the source of the drugs back to a residence on Frogg Road, where Smith Jr. was later apprehended along with Johnny Smith Sr. A subsequent search of the home uncovered fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, suspected cutting agents, and additional controlled substances. Smith Jr. and Smith Sr. both are now facing criminal charges.
