Schachtner 'Bill To Protect Interstate Medical Licensure Goes To Governor'

(Press Release) – Today, bipartisan legislation authored by Senator Patty Schachtner (D- Somerset) passed the Assembly and now heads to the Governor’s desk. This legislation will keep Wisconsin in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact to help expedite licensing for physicians that want to practice in multiple states.

“Particularly in my part of the state, this interstate compact is critical to ensuring that the people of Northwestern Wisconsin will have access to enough physicians and healthcare professionals for their healthcare needs,” said Senator Schachtner. “This bill will support physicians that want to come practice in Wisconsin from Minnesota or other states. It’s about providing access to quality care.”

Senate Bill 74 will eliminate a sunset provision so Wisconsin’s participation in the compact can continue. With the Governor’s signature, this legislation will bring certainty and stability to our healthcare providers as well as the patient population of border communities in our state.

State Senator Patty Schachtner proudly represents Wisconsin’s tenth senate district with 178,250 constituents. The district covers parts of Burnett, Dunn, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties.
