SAWYER COUNTY -- Criminal charges have been filed against 5 people in Sawyer County Circuit Court following the execution of a search warrant due to suspected drug trafficking out of a Hayward residence.
In February 2021 law enforcement received information regarding suspected drug trafficking activity at a residence on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation. Officers were told that there were multiple people staying at a residence on Watertower Lane and that individuals at the residence had been observed weighing out small packets of a white substance suspected to be fentanyl.
A controlled purchase of the suspected fentanyl from an individual at the residence on Watertower Lane was conducted by law enforcement. Following that, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, which was identified as belonging to Neil W Martinson.
On February 25, 2021 officers went to the Martinson residence to execute the search warrant. Officers located several people inside the residence including at least one juvenile, according to a criminal complaint filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court.
During the execution of the search warrant, throughout the house in various rooms officers found multiple firearms including shotguns; a large amount of ammunition; marijuana; suspected heroin and fentanyl; digital scale; numerous pills; cash; at least 1 hypodermic syringe loaded with a liquid that tested positive for heroin; and numerous devices used for smoking controlled substances.
Online circuit court records show that criminal charges have been filed against five people following this search warrant.
Neil W. Martinson is charged with Class I Felony Possession of Narcotic Drugs and Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place. Martinson is scheduled to appear again in April 2021 regarding his charges.
Neil W. Martinson, Jr. is facing charges of Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place, Misdemeanor Possession of THC, and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia. A hearing is set for March 15, 2021, regarding Martinson, Jr.’s charges.
Levon Smith of Minneapolis is charged with Class E Felony Possess w/ Intent/Deliver Narcotics, Class H Felony Misappropriate ID Info - Avoid Penalty, and Class I Felony Possess w/Intent-THC (<=200 grams). Smith is set to appear again on March 15, 2021.
Javaka Starkey is charged with Class E Felony Manuf/Deliver Schedule I, II Narcotics, Class G Felony Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony, and Misdemeanor Possession of THC. Starkey is set to appear again in April 2021.
Yvonne Martinson is facing a charge of Class E Felony Possess w/ Intent/Deliver Narcotics. A hearing is scheduled for Yvonne in April 2021.
