Search Warrant Results in Meth Charges for Shell Lake Man

A Shell Lake, WI man is facing methamphetamine-related charges following the execution of a search warrant at his residence.

A criminal complaint has been filed against Michael R. Hessler in Washburn County Circuit Court, which states that the Shell Lake Police Department, with the assistance of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team, executed a search warrant at Hessler's basement apartment on 5th Avenue in Shell Lake, WI on August 23, 2017.

After officers advised Hessler that they would be searching his apartment, he was taken to the Washburn County Sheriff's Office and interviewed by an officer. 

While speaking with officers, Hessler allegedly stated that he had previously used methamphetamine but denied any current use of methamphetamine or marijuana or any prescription pain medication. Hessler also told officers that he is aware of the current problem of methamphetamine in Washburn County and that he tries to 'help' other people who are struggling with methamphetamine usage.

The criminal complaint states that officers located methamphetamine, multiple items of drug paraphernalia, a prescription for Oxycodone, and a plastic container holding 1.5 grams of marijuana inside Hessler's apartment.  

When Hessler was confronted with the fact that these items had been located inside his apartment, he then allegedly stated that if he was tested for marijuana use, the result would come back 'hot' for marijuana. 

Hessler is facing charges of Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

An initial appearance in Washburn County Circuit Court is scheduled for Hessler in November. At this time, online circuit court records do not indicate that Hessler is subject to any bail bond.
