Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) recently announced that state Sen. Romaine Quinn (R-Birchwood) has been awarded its Champion of Economic Development Award for his leadership during the 2025-26 Wisconsin Legislative Session on legislation designed to boost economic growth. His efforts at the State Capitol will help promote local housing development, strengthen Wisconsin’s workforce, and drive community revitalization across the state.
“WEDA is excited to recognize Sen. Quinn as a Champion of Economic Development. His commitment to critical economic development policy and leadership on legislation to promote housing development and community revitalization in northwest Wisconsin and across the state is laudable,” said Michael Welsh, WEDA vice president of Legislative Affairs. “We appreciate the opportunity to thank him for his efforts at the State Capitol to help advance economic growth in Wisconsin.”
Sen. Quinn earned WEDA’s Champion of Economic Development Award for his work on policies addressing some of the state’s biggest economic challenges and providing communities with the tools to drive local economic activity. He spearheaded key legislation to improve local financing tools for housing development, including a proposal signed into law that incentivizes housing rehabilitation, the conversion of vacant properties into accessible housing, and lower residential infrastructure costs.
“As chair of the Senate Housing Committee, I worked to advance legislation to address housing affordability and availability by providing improved residential financing tools and removing costly regulatory barriers,” said Sen. Quinn. “These practical approaches will help homeowners, developers, and municipalities provide workforce housing options to attract and retain businesses and workers in Wisconsin. I am honored to accept this award.”
Sen. Quinn was first elected to the Wisconsin Senate in 2022 after serving three terms in the state Assembly. He is the current chairman of the Senate Housing Committee and serves on the Legislature’s budget-writing committee. He is seeking reelection to the Senate in the 23rd Senate District, which covers all of Barron, Clark, Price, Rusk, and Taylor counties, as well as portions of Chippewa, Dunn, and Marathon counties.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Association, founded in 1975, is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to growing Wisconsin’s economy. Driven by the needs of its members, WEDA represents the economic development interests of both the private and public sectors through professional development, best practices, and advocacy.
