MADISON, WI — Senator Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Birchwood) and Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) reacted to the announcement made by Sawyer County Circuit Court Judge Monica Isham, in which she said she may refuse to hold court, following the actions of Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan. Senator Quinn and Representative Green jointly released the following statement:
Wisconsin’s Code of Judicial Conduct requires a judge to uphold the integrity of the judiciary. It further states that ‘a judge shall respect and comply with the law and shall act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.
Judge Isham’s threat to close court certainly does not promote public confidence in our court system or uphold the integrity of her position as a public official in this state. It is a disservice to the residents of Sawyer County.
After years of work in Madison to secure a second court branch for Sawyer County, it is an insult that this state and local investment would be used for political purposes.
The oath she took says that a judge will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties’ of her office. If Judge Isham refuses to faithfully do her job, she has lost the faith of the electorate and should step aside for someone who will uphold the oath of office.
