BARRON COUNTY - On Thursday, at approximately 8:02p, the Barron County 911 Center received a call reporting a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 53 just north of Rice Lake. The driver of the car was flown to an area hospital in critical condition, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 8:02 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a one vehicle accident on Hwy 53 just north of Rice Lake.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Marshfield Medical Center Ambulance, Rice Lake Fire Department and Life Link Helicopter responded to the scene.
Initial investigation shows a semi was stopped on the side of Hwy 53 and a vehicle traveling southbound crossed the white fog line and rumble strips and stuck the back of the semi.
The driver of the car, a 37 year old male from Appleton, was flown to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver of the semi, a 23 year old male from Georgia, was not injured.

Hwy 53 was closed for five hours with the assistance of the Barron County Hwy Department. Special thanks to S and R Towing for their assistance in getting the road back open.
The WI State Patrol is reconstructing the accident and the crash remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the WI State Patrol.
